Child Therapy

You are the expert on your child. You know their personality, their strengths and struggles, and you can tell when they need some extra support.

Your child is the expert in play. Play is central to a child’s world—it’s how they learn, communicate, process experiences, and make sense of their emotions.

At Bloom & Grow Family Counseling, we’re the experts in bringing the pieces together to support growth, healing, and resilience. Our therapists are specially trained to use play as a therapeutic tool to help children navigate anxiety, ADHD, grief, trauma, life transitions, behavioral concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, and more.

Non-directive play therapy

Non-directive play therapy creates a safe, supportive space where children can express themselves naturally through play. Because children often communicate their thoughts, emotions, and experiences more easily through play than words, the therapist follows the child’s lead while building a trusting and accepting relationship.

Drawing from Child-Centered and Adlerian play therapy approaches, this work supports children in developing emotional awareness, confidence, problem-solving skills, and healthier ways of relating to others. Through the safety of connection and the freedom to explore at their own pace, children are supported in making sense of their experiences and growing in resilience and self-understanding.

Family Therapy and Theraplay®

Theraplay® is a playful, attachment-focused approach that helps children and caregivers strengthen connection, trust, and emotional security together. Sessions are active and engaging, using guided play, nurturing interactions, movement, and shared moments of joy to support deeper relationships.

Theraplay® can help children who are struggling with emotional regulation, anxiety, big behaviors, transitions, trauma, or attachment-related challenges. Caregivers are an important part of the process, as healing happens through safe, connected relationships and shared experiences together.

Cognitive Behavorial Play Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy (CBPT) combines the practical tools of cognitive behavioral therapy with the natural language of play. Through games, creative activities, storytelling, and play-based experiences, children can learn to better understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in ways that feel developmentally appropriate and engaging.

CBPT can help children build coping skills, increase emotional awareness, manage anxiety, strengthen problem-solving skills, and feel more confident navigating everyday challenges. Sessions are tailored to each child’s unique needs while creating a supportive space for growth, connection, and resilience.
